The BULB

…..At the close of the day, on a territory spot , a colossal (monumental) object inflates and comes to life.

…For a few hours, as a stone heavy with the heat of the day, the Bulb releases images and sounds picked up/captured/ in its immediate environment…

.

The Bulb is a transposition of the concept of the original fire, a place of gathering, of communion, of the experience shared by the community in a technological and mediatized society.

It creates daydreaming (‘mental stroll’), without forgetting its main objective which is questioning the places where the bulb is situated and by extension questioning the city and the territory in their contemporary dimension.

The Bulb project is essentially a work in context.Reactive to the places it settles in , it is inserted in the territories and explores a global / comprehensive contemporary urban reality; The Bulb is aimed at the inhabitants and the regular visitors of these chosen places.

The Bulb is aimed at the general public and may help people to think about their perception and representation of the contemporary territories, about the possible actions to elaborate a collective reflection about the place they live (debates, brainstormings…) .

The Bulb is an inflatable structure which can communicate with its physical and social context.

The Bulb is a hypnotic/mesmerizing object, around which everyone can wander in thought and get together to live a common experience in a space/time unit.

The Bulb is the expression of a performance/intervention , being present for several days on a territory to collect video and sound materials, to meet people and their territory.

The Bulb is an audio-visual aid for 8 simultaneous projections, the luminescent button of a so far-so close world, the exhalation of fragmented bits, snippets of ‘the trivial ‘and ‘the unusual’ , full of poetry and everyday life.

Principles of the investigations of a territory

1. Locations research phase, writing of a scenario.

It concerns the initial contact with the local speakers , the choice of the site, the writing of the scenario ….

Description: discovering a territory: its history, the developments of its neighborhood, locations research and the strategy of interest in the territory

Meeting the different actors and people involved in the territory , getting information.

Writing a scenario: beginning and development of the main thematics inspired by the site and the context of the performance.

Constructing/ a plan to get images and sound materials.

Communicating with the neighborhood/area/district.

2. Getting sound and images materials phase.

This phase is necessary to the fulfiment of the scenario of a given site.

Description : sound recording, filming and camera working made by a team of various artists :

sound designers, video directors, photographers and architects.

The way images and sounds are collected may be very different:interviewing people in the street, chosen interviews, workshops, meetings, zooming, sound atmospheres, fixed camera, panoramic shots…

3.Collecting phase.

The collecting phase corresponds to both the editing of the different ‘scenes’( images, sound or slideshots ) and to the collection and harmony of the different ‘scenes’ between them and the tests on the Bulb.

4. the performing phase.

This phase corresponds to inflating the bulb, installing the technical items, the lights, the scenography , to live performing every night and to installing a social interaction point.
